Kids' Stats

With school for the two big kids just around the corner, we scheduled all three kids for their check-ups.  So Wednesday was a day full of doctors' visits, one hospital visit and we even managed to sneak in another visit to the MOSH while we were waiting for our procedure appointment at the Wolfson's for Haakon.

Here are the kids' stats:

Audriana (at 2 years and 8 months):
   *31 lbs. (50- 75 percentile)
   *38 inches (75-90 percentile)

Haakon (at 1 year and 7 months)
   *27 lbs (50-75th percentile)
   *34 inches (90th percentile)

Espen (at 2 months and 16 days)
   *14.6 lbs (75-90 percentile)
   *24 inches (50-75 percentile)

As you can see, the kids are growing right along on their growth charts.  Haakon had not been putting on weight a little while back, so it is really GREAT to see his weight jump up from the 20th percentile!

Some of you may know that Haakon has been seeing a few specialists to address a problem that he has been having since about six months old.  He's had this rattling in his chest that always makes it sound like he is congested all the time.  This was accompanied by a raspy voice and on and off cough.  We were told initially that it was a cold.  Then allergies.  Then possible breathing issue.  So after seeing our family doctor on base, then a referral out in town to a pediatric pulmonologist and then pediatric ear, nose and throat doctor, we agreed to have Haakon undergo a laryngoscopy that included a lung wash and esophagus biopsy at the downtown childrens' hospital.  Although, Haakon had to have general anesthesia, he did AWESOME and was quite the charmer with the pretty nurses in the recovery room :)

The great news is that the biopsy indicated that his esphogus is normal and that reflux is not at issue.  However, the pictures from the scope indicates that further testing was needed and we need to see a few more specialists to figure out what exactly is going on with Haakon.  Although this was not the news that we were expecting at all (in fact, I was confident that the doctor was going to tell me that I was being over protective and that it was all nothing to worry about), we are lucky that we have the resources available to us with experts who will help us figure things out.

Despite everything, he is a happy and healthy (for the most part), rambunctious little boy.  He LOVES to chase his sister around, love on his brother, tell me the tickle him more (using the sign language for "more" for added emphasis), and eat us out of house and home.  So we are pretty lucky ducks.

Its late now and another little boy is calling out for his 2nd dinner wagon of the evening.  But stay tuned for another post soon...we have some EXCITING news to share!
